Mutt Day

December 2nd, 2011No comments »

National Mutt Day raises awareness of mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation and to educate the public about the mixed breed dogs that are desperately waiting for a forever home.

Many a famous mutt has come from a shelter.  One of the county’s most famous movie dogs, Benji was a Spaniel mix adopted from the Burbank Animal Shelter.  Closer to home in March of this year, Enzo was adopted from the Utah Animal Adoption Center. Enzo is training to be a search and rescue dog. B. Sayer, Enzo’s human partner writes, “I am pleased to have saved a life so he can on day save a human life.”
So please visit your local sheldter and find a new friend today!  If you can’t adopt a mixed breed friend on December 2nd, please donate at least $5 to your local animal shelter, as they all need financial assistance and very dollar counts!

Pet Appreciation Week

June 7th, 2011No comments »

This week is Pet Appreciation Week. For all the love, loyalty and friendship they provide, this is a time when we can give back a little more. You don’t have to spend money, here are some ideas.

Linus loves his tummy scratched.

`
* Give a belly rub. Not just for dogs, I have two cats who loved their tummies scratched.
* Go on a long walk. Be responsible and take a doody bag.
* Give them a bath. Brush their teeth.  gus2
* Freshen up their bed. Vacuum, wash and toss in a clean blanket.
* Give that collar a good cleaning.
* Wash and sanitize the cat box and fill with new, fresh litter.
* Wash that favorite toy, toss it in the washer.
* Take your dog to a pet friendly store.  You don’t need to buy anything, just window shop.
`
For a few dollars, you can give pet treats and new (baby) blankets from the dollar store or large blankets from the second hand store.  Get them a new ID tag with their name and your current phone number.
DoctorDog`
For a few dollars more, visit the vet for their annual check-up, have your pet micro-chipped or go to a pet friendly restaurant.
`
Show everyone they are part of your family: post a picture to your FB account or other internet sites.  Have a portrait of your family and pet for your scrapbook.
`

Have a Great Week!

Mom, You Are Special!

A Mother’s Day Poem from the Cat

Having fun with yarn and string,
Leaving fur on everything,
Purring when I get a treat,
Always landing on my feet,
Posing on a windowsill,
Staring like I want to kill,
Leaping with both skill and grace,
Acting like I own the place,
Playing with your rolled-up socks,
Visiting the litter box,
Seeing who I can ignore,
Deciding who’s the biggest bore,
Taking naps on top of you…
These are the things I love to do!

Happy Mother’s Day

Paw it Forward

April 27th, 2011No comments »

April 28th is “Paw it Forward” Day, based on the human story of “Pay it Forward”.   For all animal lovers it is a great time to remember the people and animals in your area who could use a helping hand.

The principal behind this program is that you “pay forward” any help or favors that you receive. You do something nice for someone. If they ask how they can repay you, you tell them to “pay it forward” and do something nice for someone else. Better yet, why not be the initiator and start the “Paw it Forward” act of kindness.

Every shelter can use help of some kind – from money to food, bedding and toy donations. Volunteer, get your friends and/or organization to provide scheduled, recurring service. Many of the employees that work at shelters work tirelessly to rescue, comfort and place animals in forever homes. Any service, supplies and donations is appreciated by the staff.
