Remembering our Furry Friends

World Pet Memorial Day

June 12, is a time where everyone who lost a pet pays their respects to their departed friends and remembers the memories that was once shared with them.  You can participate in the World Pet Memorial Day by donating money, food and pet supplies, or volunteering at your community animal shelter.

Pet Appreciation Week

This week is Pet Appreciation Week. For all the love, loyalty and friendship they provide, this is a time when we can give back a little more. You don’t have to spend money, here are some ideas.

Linus loves his tummy scratched.

`
* Give a belly rub. Not just for dogs, I have two cats who loved their tummies scratched.
* Go on a long walk. Be responsible and take a doody bag.
* Give them a bath. Brush their teeth.  gus2
* Freshen up their bed. Vacuum, wash and toss in a clean blanket.
* Give that collar a good cleaning.
* Wash and sanitize the cat box and fill with new, fresh litter.
* Wash that favorite toy, toss it in the washer.
* Take your dog to a pet friendly store.  You don’t need to buy anything, just window shop.
`
For a few dollars, you can give pet treats and new (baby) blankets from the dollar store or large blankets from the second hand store.  Get them a new ID tag with their name and your current phone number.
DoctorDog`
For a few dollars more, visit the vet for their annual check-up, have your pet micro-chipped or go to a pet friendly restaurant.
`
Show everyone they are part of your family: post a picture to your FB account or other internet sites.  Have a portrait of your family and pet for your scrapbook.

Have a Great Week!

A Famous Shelter Cat

June is…Adopt a Shelter Cat Month.

Charlie is the office cat and is deaf.

Lionel could be Morris’ twin.

Space

The original Morris the Cat was rescued from an animal shelter in 1968.

Today’s Morris is third iteration of the 9 Lives’ spokescat.

Here are some of Morris’ cousins at the Utah Animal Adoption Center.

AKA Katie My orange tabby Katrina was named after the hurricane. AKA Kate, Katie and Miss Patty, she has a  fiery personality to go with her red hair. She enjoys the occasional tater tot, French fry or hash brown. An open door, cabinet or drawer is her personal invitation to explore what’s inside.

Strut Your Mutt

Last Saturday I volunteered at the Strut you Mutt event in West Jordan, Utah.  Larry and Wally joined us from the center to walk the walk.  Both are up for adoption and enjoyed all the attention they received in their own way.

Wally jumped for joy and bounced around accepting loves from the humans.  His wiry hair hanging in his eyes and happy personality was quite appealing.  He was very popular and had three different potential adopters ask question about him.

Larry on the other hand was calm and collected.  “Laid back Larry” sat on the chair next to me watching everyone walk by.  Hundreds of people and hundreds of dogs attended this great event.  Larry had one suitor, I hope the suitor realizes what a great dog he is and give him a forever home.  I don’t think he even barked once during our outing.

Always think Adoption First.  Check out the picture gallery for more pictures from the day.
